  • IE7 and protected storages

    In fact, the passwords in the current Beta version of Internet Explorer 7.0 are saved in 3 different locations, depending on the type of the saved password:

    • HTTP Authentication Passwords: This type of passwords is saved in the Microsoft Credential file, under Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Credentials\, together with login passwords of LAN computers and .NET Passport passwords.
    • AutoComplete Passwords: This type of passwords is saved in a completely new location in the Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\Storage2
    • FTP Passwords: In the Beta 2 of IE7, passwords of FTP servers are still stored in the Protected Storage, in the same manner that they are saved in previous versions of IE.
      In the Beta 3 of IE7, the FTP passwords are not saved in the system anymore. This behaviour might be changed in the final version of IE7.

    Голландцы запустили новый журнал для дельфийцев. Не уверен, что это принесет им деньги, но отсутствие журналов в этой области (все позакрывались) было тоже абсолютно не нормальным явлением.

    Хотя их ожидания (около 200-250 тыс подписчиков) явно завышены.

  • $10 per domain

    Seems GoDaddy raised the fee for domain. Now it costs $10 per year.

    I found the coupon and renewed the domain (for Igor) for $7 but anyway I think that $10 for domain is too much. In the next year when I’ll renew the own domains, I’ll try to move to another service from GoDaddy.

    They annoyed with own advertising (2-3 messages per week like spam) and now they increased the fees. I don’t like such business…

    Если у вас откалывается небольшой кусочек вазы (ценной для вас), то скорее всего вы ее заклеете. Но если ваза упала на пол и разбилась в дребезги, то вы ее выбросите (не учитываем особо ценные вазы в руках профессионалов).

    Так и в остальной жизни. Одни (“успешные”) лезут вверх и преодолевают одну неприятность за другой. А вот большинство (“неудачники”) никуда не ползет. Они катятся вниз, но не потому, что они глупые или не видят успешной дороги вверх, а т.к. решение одной какой-то проблемы, не решит тысячи других проблем.

    И проблема не только в отношении к жизни (оптимист-пессимист). Просто у разных людей жизнь складывается по разному. У одного болит палец и он лечит его, а у второго “болит все” и вылечить это “все” шансов мало.

    Если ваш Мерседес стукнули, то вы будете чинить его бампер. Но если у вашей развалюхи Запорожца, который и так дышит на ладан, отпал бампер, то вы либо откинете его в сторону, либо привяжете его веревкой и поедете дальше.

    Это просто разный уровень накопленных проблем. Груз всегда тянет вниз и после прохождения некой точки невозврата даже самый “успешный” махнет рукой и покатится вниз:-(

    Например, после рождения ребенка имя дается сразу, но в случае с мальчиком его нельзя оглашать. Только после обрезания (на седьмой день) имя сына говорят всем родным и знакомым. А вот имя девочки можно говорить сразу же.

    Vista doesn’t allow to open the help files in old .hlp format. Only .chm file supported. The viewer for .hlp (winhlp32.exe) is not deployed by default in Vista at all.

  • phone support

    We do not provide the support by phone. And most shareware companies do the same.

    But I don’t like two optiosn which I see on some sites:

    • toll-free phone number included but in bold font you see “Technical or customer support is NOT AVAILABLE at these numbers”
    • vendor live in some “third world” country but postal address is in USA or Canada (virtual office for small monthly fee with fax and post mail forwarding)

    Why you share your phone if customer can’t call for you? Do you accept the calls from Bill Gates only? Just hide the phone number and don’t publish on site.

    What is an advantage in such “american” address if you live in another time zone on another part of world?
