In last 5 years I used very useful (for me) service from my mobile operator (UMC/MTS) – all email messages which are sent to [email protected] (12345 – the phone number), were forwarded to cell phone as SMS’s
I used this service to forward some important and/or urgent messages from my mailbox because I can’t reach the mailbox all time but phone is in my pocket and I can read the SMS in any time anywere.
But in last month the UMC/MTS closed this service due high level of SPAM. The most domains (umc.com.ua. mts.com.ua etc) returned an error but umc.ua worked. I switched the setting and got the SMSs correctly again.
On last week they closed the umc.ua too:-( Very bad for me because I do not use the cell phone for calls – I used like pager for these forwarded SMSs from mailbox.
Today I found a few global services with similar functionality:
- freeware peekamo ( http://peekamo.com)
- smsfun.com.au but work in AU/NZ/UK only:-(
- http://www.promo2cell.com – $100 per month and UA is not supported there
Also some database of operators and special phone codes published at http://www.mutube.com/projects/open-email-to-sms but I don’t understand how to use
